This weekend’s episode is all about praying for your prodigal…

by the way, I’ve got one.

This may not be a party you wanted to attend, but when it comes to praying our prodigals back home, no one else is going to pray for them like we do. We have to show up so God can show out. Because, He answers prayers even when we can’t see how it’s ever going to turn around for good. God sees and He cares. In fact, He loves them more than we do.

When we feel like there’s nothing left that we can do, we can still pray like never before. Interesting, my grammar check wants to know if I meant “prey” and maybe I do. We have an enemy who likes to prey on us, but let’s turn the tables and hunt him down instead. We’ve been given authority to pray over our children and know this: the Devil is a defeated foe.

I have this beautiful quote in my office; my mom gave it to me. She said, “I don’t need this as a reminder anymore because now it’s true. It’s yours now.” Interestingly, this was just a few years after my brother died in a tragic accident. He was a prodigal gone Home. Without a doubt, my mom’s one of the strongest women I know. She didn’t know then how much I’d need this reminder today.

And, because I know this to be true, I’m grabbing on with both hands to this Scripture:

I have no greater joy than to hear that my children are walking in the truth. 3 John 4 (NIV)

How do I know how to pray? Because I am a prodigal come home…
